Gold – First, I want to thank KCBY for this opportunity to speak directly to your viewers.
My name is John Briggs and I am a candidate for Mayor of the City of North Bend
For those viewers who do not know me – I have been a resident of North Bend for over 25 years. I previously served as Mayor of the city from 2000 through 2002 and before that I served two years as a City Council member. Subsequently, I was elected to the Coos County Airport Board for 8 years and served as its chairman for 2 years.
I earned a degree in accounting from the University of Oregon. I bring to the job of Mayor – 45 years of professional experience as a CPA with experience in both the private and public sector and extensively worked with businesses throughout my career. Additionally, I have been in private practice in the local area as a small business owner and only retired a few years ago from active practice in the Bay area. My professional experience and involvement as an elected official have afforded me the opportunity to be involved in various public leadership positions that has directly involved the key functions of budgeting, auditing and oversight.
Many people in North Bend may also recognize me as the author and sponsor of two citizen grass roots measures that passed overwhelmingly in 2019 which rolled back the city’s “Public Safety Fee” that was added by the North Bend City Council to every water bill as well as passage of the measure limiting the city’s ability to never again assess a tax on its citizens and businesses disguised as a “fee” without voter approval.
The most important question we all will be deciding in the coming weeks at our kitchen tables is whether or not we are better off now than we were two years ago. Many people In our city right now are feeling less safe in their homes, in their businesses and on our city streets. Many people are feeling that their city government is not listening and acting. We can – and must – do better.
If I am elected Mayor of North Bend, under my leadership we will immediately begin listening to the hardworking citizens of North Bend so we can begin to come up with solutions so everyone can once again feel safe and secure in our city.
I have “done it – been there” and I believe I bring the wisdom at the exact moment when it is most needed. A Mayor John Briggs will deliver an honest common-sense approach to get on
with attacking the many issues in this city that matter.
